Holly began her career in dentistry in 2010 and qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2012. Since then, she has continued to expand her knowledge, earning qualifications in oral health education, sedation nursing, and more.
Now a Deputy Manager at Smiles by Gurms, Holly brings over a decade of experience to her role, alongside her continued work as a full-time Dental Nurse. Her passion for oral health is evident in her approach to patient care, believing that oral health education should be the foundation of any treatment plan. Working closely with clinicians and hygienists, Holly ensures that patients receive exceptional care from every team member, each using their expertise to provide the highest standards of service.
Holly is dedicated to education and mentorship. Throughout her career, she has mentored over 10 dental nurses, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in hygiene therapy and orthodontic therapy. “Mentoring and training take hard work, time, and patience, but the reward of watching new team members grow is worth every moment,” she says.
In addition to her clinical skills, Holly has a strong interest in oral surgery and sedation, where her caring and empathetic nature shines. She believes in making patients feel calm and relaxed even before sedation, ensuring they are at ease throughout their treatment.
Holly is also deeply committed to sustainability and has introduced eco-friendly processes within the practice to help Smiles by Gurms reduce its environmental footprint. With many more ideas in the pipeline, she is excited about continuing to make the practice more sustainable.
Outside of work, Holly is an active member of her community, organizing charity events such as skydives, Tough Mudder challenges, and bake sales (sugar-free, of course!). As an animal lover and vegan, Holly advocates for animal welfare and enjoys educating others on the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. In her downtime, she loves socializing with friends and family, salsa dancing, and taking on physical challenges. She shares her home with her two cats, Maude and Bunny, and her husband, though she admits the cats tend to take priority!
